Uniform
The Teaching Staff and Governors wholeheartedly encourage the wearing of school uniform. We believe that it is important for the school to have a standard, recognisable uniform and that it is often easier for parents when a school uniform is standard wear.
We hope that with guidance from parents, our children will be conscientious and take pride in their appearance. By wearing our school uniform smartly, we hope that they will feel proud to identify themselves with St James' First School. When wearing St James' Uniform, our children are representing themselves as ambassadors for our school.
All items of clothing and uniform need to be clearly named.
School Colours
Our colours are grey, white and dark green. Accessories, such as hair clips and headbands, should be functional rather than fashionable and, when possible, in school colours. Jewellery should not be worn. A maximum of one small pair of stud earrings are permitted and only if your child is capable of managing them independently. Children are allowed to wear a traditional or digital watch. However, smart watches are not allowed.
School fleeces can also be purchased with a logo but are not a substitute to the normal school jumper.
Shoes and Trainers
Children wear black shoes with black, grey or white socks or tights. Please no slip-ons, ballet style or trainer style shoes. For safety reasons, shoes should cover the feet and be fastened by laces, velcro or buckles.
PE Kit
Children will need a green t-shirt with school logo, black shorts and trainers. Children can wear black tracksuit bottoms and their school jumper for winter months. Children will need a pair of trainers for PE, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. (They do not need plimsolls)

Provision of Clothing
Parents may apply to the school for assistance in the purchasing of uniform or kit, providing they have successfully applied to Dorset County Council for free school meals. The school will immediately be notified if a parent is eligible for clothing assistance, when Dorset County Council confirms eligibility for free meals.
Those eligible for clothing assistance will be entitled to a sum of up to £50 every two years towards the total cost. This can be claimed by providing a receipt for the purchased items to the school office, which will then be reimbursed.
